Ehud Barak Warns Netanyahu Could Try to Disrupt Elections, Cites Lebanon Escalation Risk
Former prime minister Ehud Barak said he is worried ahead of the coming elections and warned that if Benjamin Netanyahu tries to undermine them, Israelis would have no choice but to “expel him with sticks and stones.” He made the remarks in an interview with Kan Bet.
Barak said Netanyahu could try to “sabotage” the vote by ordering bombings in Lebanon that would force a response from Hezbollah and Iran. In his view, that would create a security crisis around the election period.
He also accused Netanyahu of wanting “an endless war” because ending it would accelerate the corruption trial he is facing. Barak said, “It is a day of accountability that he does not want.”
Barak further claimed that, just as Netanyahu had blocked some hostage deals, he also blocked progress in Lebanon.
