Rabbi Chaim Sabato Eulogizes Student Harel Birnstok as a Man of Love

Rabbi Chaim Sabato, head of the Ma'ale Adumim Yeshiva, delivered a heartfelt eulogy for his student Harel Birnstok, emphasizing that Harel was "entirely love", love for his family, yeshiva, friends, Torah, people, state, land, and soldiers. Rabbi Sabato quoted the Talmud, which praises the beauty of the Jewish people as a reflection of their pure soul, Torah light, holiness, closeness to God, and noble character traits, all qualities he saw in Harel.

He referenced a Talmudic teaching about future compensation for losses, noting that while gold can replace money, there is no substitute for those killed, underscoring the irreplaceable loss of Harel. Rabbi Sabato invoked the biblical phrase "The Lord will see" from the binding of Isaac, expressing hope that God will see and protect His people, especially those who leave the study hall to fight bravely for the nation.

The rabbi acknowledged the deep sorrow of Harel's family and the Jewish people, stating that while humans cannot fully console, God, the "Father of orphans and Judge of widows," can provide true comfort and healing. He prayed that God will restore the broken family and protect the nation from its enemies, allowing it to flourish and grow in Torah and honor.

Rabbi Sabato concluded with a hopeful blessing that soon the eyes of the people will witness this renewal and growth, ending with "Amen."
