Chabad Celebrates Ninth Children's Torah Scroll at Western Wall Ceremony

Thousands gathered at the Western Wall on August 5, 2026, to celebrate the dedication of the ninth Torah scroll created by the children of Israel. This special Torah was written after registering 304,805 children worldwide, each contributing one letter to the scroll. The event featured the final letters being written, a procession, celebratory circuits around the plaza, and singing led by rabbis and singer Josh Aronson.

The new Torah scroll marks a milestone in a historic project initiated by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1981. Over the past three years, thousands of Chabad emissaries across Israel and the globe worked to individually register children, matching the number of letters in the Torah. The scroll was carried with great honor to a decorated central stage at the Western Wall plaza, where the crowd joyfully sang "Sisu V’simchu" and concluded with a moving rendition of "Ani Maamin" around 9 PM.

Following the ceremony, the Torah was returned to the Tzemach Tzedek synagogue, joining the eight previous scrolls and serving the community for regular use. This event underscores the ongoing dedication to Jewish education and unity worldwide through this unique communal Torah project.
