Chabad Unites Over 300,000 Jewish Children Worldwide in Ninth Torah Scroll Ceremony at Western Wall

This week at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem, Chabad held the ninth Torah scroll dedication ceremony involving Jewish children worldwide. The event drew thousands of children and their parents and featured a procession, dancing, and prayers. Over the past three years, Chabad emissaries globally registered children to purchase individual letters in the Torah scroll through community activities, schools, and events.

The initiative, founded in 1981 by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, targets children under bar or bat mitzvah age, allowing each child to buy one letter for one dollar. To date, 304,805 children from Israel and Jewish communities in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and even countries without diplomatic ties to Israel have participated. Rabbi Shmuel Greizman, head of the project, explained the goal is to foster unity among Jewish children through shared involvement in writing the Torah, which the Rebbe believed would spiritually protect the Jewish people.

The final letters were written in the "Tzemach Tzedek" synagogue in Jerusalem's Jewish Quarter, followed by a procession to the Western Wall where the Torah scroll was formally dedicated with recitations and rabbinic speeches. Organizers announced that registration for the tenth Torah scroll has already begun.
