Israeli Man Detained and Questioned for Two Hours After Filming Police Helicopter Over Jerusalem

A young man from Jerusalem, identified as A., was detained and interrogated for about two hours by Shin Bet agents after filming a police helicopter taking off near the government complex in Jerusalem. Shortly after capturing the helicopter's takeoff in Gan HaVradim park, a man identifying himself as a Shin Bet officer showed A. his ID, stopped him, and began questioning him on the spot.

During the interrogation, A. was forced to unlock his phone and hand it over, allowing the agent to extensively review his apps, private messages, and personal conversations, including intimate chats with his wife. The questioning focused on why he filmed the helicopter, with the agent asking if he used Telegram, if he collaborated with Iranians, and telling him he "did not fit in the landscape." A. described the experience as humiliating and frightening, saying he trembled with fear and was pressured to speak, with threats that police reinforcements were on the way.

The agent also demanded A.'s home entry code and photographed content from his phone. After about two hours, the interrogation ended with the agent stating no suspicious findings were detected and that A. was free to go, though he warned him he would be contacted again from a private number. The agent offered to help gather A.'s belongings and insisted he was just doing his job. A. said the entire ordeal was degrading and illegal, and he has struggled to recover emotionally since the incident. Shin Bet declined to comment on the report.
