Pittsburgh Hasidic Youth Attacked and Robbed in Ashdod, Fear of Arrest Prevents Police Complaint

A young man from the Pittsburgh Hasidic community was attacked and robbed by a group of teenagers in Ashdod early Saturday morning. The incident occurred between 2:45 and 3:00 a.m. as the victim was walking alone home in neighborhood Z after attending a Sabbath night gathering at his Hasidic study hall. Near the intersection of neighborhoods G and V on Yitzhak Hanasi Street, five youths suddenly blocked his path and began harassing him with provocative questions. Despite his polite attempts to defuse the situation, one assailant violently pushed him onto the street, causing his hat, kippah, and glasses to fall off. The attackers fled with his expensive glasses, leaving him stunned on the asphalt.

The victim returned to his community seeking help but refrained from filing an official police complaint due to fear of arrest for being absent without leave from the Israeli military. In response, several community members went out to find the suspects and recover the stolen glasses. When they located the teenagers hiding behind nearby buildings, the youths threatened them with electric shock devices and sticks, using foul language. Local residents noted that the area is heavily monitored by municipal and police security cameras, as well as private business cameras focused on the scene, which could facilitate identifying and apprehending the perpetrators if the police initiate a thorough investigation.
