Apple Temporarily Removes Telegram Over Child Sexual Abuse Content Violation

Apple temporarily removed the Telegram app from its App Store between Monday night and Tuesday morning after detecting content violating its policies against child sexual abuse material. The app was reinstated once Telegram's developers deleted the prohibited content and blocked the user responsible for posting it. Telegram responded to the incident with humor, posting on X that "reports of my death were greatly exaggerated."

The violation involved channels created by a suspect starting in April 2024, who sold access to databases containing approximately 10,000 pedophilic and pornographic materials featuring minors, including Israeli children and young women. This case highlights ongoing concerns about harmful content on social media platforms.

Additionally, a significant portion of the Israeli public encountered hate speech and incitement online during the same period, with 72% exposed to hate speech based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or political views, and 66% reporting exposure to calls for violent action motivated by hate. These figures underscore the broader challenges of content moderation on digital platforms.
