Southampton Coach Daniel Peretz Receives Death Threats Amid Espionage Scandal

Tonda Ackert, the German coach of Daniel Peretz at Southampton, revealed in an interview with Kicker magazine on Monday that he has received numerous death threats following the espionage scandal that led to Southampton's punishment. Ackert, 33, said authorities had to intervene and advised him not to drive himself anymore due to safety concerns. "The situation became unbearable without official intervention," he said, adding that as head coach, he deeply regrets the decisions made.

Southampton was disqualified from the Premier League promotion playoffs in May and docked four points for the upcoming season after their appeal was rejected. The club admitted to secretly spying on rival teams’ training sessions before the semifinal against Middlesbrough and earlier matches against Ipswich Town and Oxford.

In June, Ackert publicly took full responsibility and apologized to players, staff, and fans. The English Football Association filed charges against him in late July, and he faces a possible suspension for the next season. Despite this, Southampton confirmed Ackert will remain head coach next season, with the club’s management expressing full support for him.
