Tel Aviv Builds New 170-Meter Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge Over Rokach Boulevard

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has commenced construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge approximately 170 meters long above Rokach Boulevard. This bridge will connect the northwestern neighborhoods of the city, including Kochav HaTzafon, Nof Yam, Plan L, and Sde Dov, with the Yarkon Park and eventually the city center. The project is part of a future north-south urban corridor featuring two bridges, one over Rokach Boulevard and another over the Yarkon Stream, designed to provide continuous connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists to central Tel Aviv, Weizmann Street, Kikar HaMedina, and south to Shaul HaMelech Street.

The bridge will be six meters wide, divided into a three-meter pedestrian path and a three-meter bicycle lane, separated by a divider. Constructed from steel with a bamboo deck, it will feature a unique design and include bicycle parking on both sides beneath the bridge. Numerous trees will be planted on the north and south sides to enhance the environment. The bridge will be accessible to people with disabilities without the need for elevators and will have integrated lighting in the handrails to ensure safety during nighttime use.

Meital Lahavi, a city official, emphasized the bridge's role in enhancing urban connectivity and safety, stating that it allows residents to cross the busy Rokach Boulevard safely and promotes a quieter, more accessible city, especially benefiting children, youth, and vulnerable pedestrians. The bridge is expected to significantly improve pedestrian and cyclist mobility between the city's northwestern neighborhoods and central Tel Aviv.
