Senior Haredi rabbis pour concrete for Bnei Brak synagogue despite Friday afternoon timing
Two senior heads of yeshivas, members of the Council of Torah Sages, were seen at the construction site of the Zikaron Menachem synagogue in Bnei Brak’s Shikun H neighborhood, pouring the foundation for the future ark. The rabbis were Rabbi Tzvi Drabkin, head of Grodno Yeshiva, and Rabbi Aryeh Levy, head of Shachar Sachir Yeshiva.
The scene was documented by veteran photographer Shuki Lerner. According to Rabbi Levy, building a synagogue is uniquely sacred, to the point that its holiness is comparable to Shabbat, and therefore it is permitted and even a mitzvah to continue building it on Friday after midday.
