Rachmastrivka Hasidic Synagogue in Borough Park Undergoes Major Renovation After 26 Years

The Rachmastrivka Hasidic community in Borough Park, New York, has launched an extensive renovation project at their large synagogue on 45th Street. This initiative marks 26 years since the late Rebbe laid the cornerstone for the building, which has served as a center for prayer and Torah study since its dedication 23 years ago. The community leadership emphasized the importance of refurbishing the synagogue to honor the sanctity of the house of worship and its congregants.

The renovation is funded primarily by philanthropist Rabbi Yonatan Cohen Strasser and began on Sunday, strategically timed during the "bein hazmanim" period when many community members are away, facilitating the work. The project covers both floors of the building: the lower floor will see a complete overhaul including new shtiebel rooms, a fourth prayer room, an upgraded mikveh with showers and restrooms, a spacious coffee room, and a new gabbaim room.

The main sanctuary on the upper floor will be enhanced with marble paneling, new flooring, decorative moldings, elegant doors, and modern lighting systems to elevate the synagogue's grandeur. To maintain regular prayer services during construction, the main sanctuary will be divided into three temporary prayer rooms. Additionally, community members are granted free access to the Belz Hasidic mikveh on 45th Street.

Meanwhile, the Rachmastrivka Rebbe will pray in the older synagogue located at 1223 45th Street. The community leadership expressed hope that, with divine assistance, the renovations will be completed in time for the upcoming High Holy Days, reopening the synagogue as a magnificent spiritual home for thousands of worshippers.
