Chile and Honduras Restore Ambassadors to Israel After Three Years

Israeli President Isaac Herzog received the credentials of six new ambassadors to Israel, including those from Chile and Honduras, who are returning to their posts for the first time since the October 7 attacks. The ceremony took place at the President's Residence, where the national anthems of the respective countries were played by the IDF orchestra, and the ambassadors inspected the honor guard before meeting Herzog.

Alongside Chile and Honduras, ambassadors from Sri Lanka, Georgia, Nigeria, and Germany also presented their credentials. During his meeting with the Chilean ambassador, Herzog discussed the Gaza peace framework, highlighting positive steps led by U.S. President Donald Trump. He emphasized that the UN Security Council's 20-point plan could serve as a foundation for progress, contingent on a clear commitment to disarm Hamas.

Herzog stated that disarming Hamas is a prerequisite for advancing to the next phase, which involves establishing a technocratic government in Gaza. He described this initiative as a potential "vision of hope" for both Gaza residents and Israeli citizens, underscoring the importance of peace efforts in the region.
