Israeli Journalist Berhanu Teganya Celebrates Birthday with 10 Fascinating Facts

Berhanu Teganya, one of Israel's most energetic and well-known journalists, celebrates his birthday today. Born in Ethiopia, Teganya grew up in a family that emphasized education and values. At around age 11, he immigrated to Israel in 1992 during the follow-up operations of "Operation Solomon," initially settling in the absorption center in Arad.

As a teenager in Arad, Teganya survived the tragic 1995 Arad Festival disaster, which marked his first media interview. He began his military service in the prestigious naval officers' course before transferring to the artillery corps, where he completed officer training and served as a respected officer.

After his military service, Teganya pursued academic studies in law and business administration at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya (now Reichman University). During this time, he volunteered with the Tavka Association, which promotes the rights of Ethiopian immigrants and fights discrimination and racism.

Teganya's media career started at the Ethiopian-Israeli TV channel IETV, gaining his first on-camera experience. In 2008, he joined Channel 12 News (formerly Channel 2 News) as a crime reporter, leading complex investigations and exclusive field reports. Between 2016 and 2019, he co-hosted a successful weekly radio program on crime alongside journalist Gilad Shalmor.

In 2020, Teganya received the prestigious journalism award from the B'nai B'rith organization in recognition of his comprehensive reporting. Known for his energetic, dramatic, and authentic field reports, his charismatic presence has made him one of the most respected and recognizable journalists in Israeli media.
