UN Envoy Nikolay Mladenov Condemns Israeli Strikes in Gaza Amid Peace Efforts

Nikolay Mladenov, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Gaza representing the Peace Council, criticized recent Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip. Following the announcement of a roadmap to implement an agreement with Hamas, Mladenov highlighted that two days of Israeli attacks have resulted in civilian deaths and the destruction of vital medical equipment. He expressed concern over the impact on civilians dependent on this equipment.

Mladenov's remarks came amid intensive efforts by the Peace Council and mediators from Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and the United States to persuade Palestinian factions in Gaza to agree to a comprehensive roadmap. This plan aims to fully implement former President Trump's peace initiative, including the transfer of civilian governance and the disarmament of militant groups. Both sides have obligations under this comprehensive plan and the Sharm el-Sheikh deal, which also guarantees the release of all hostages.
