Kuppat Ha'Ir Launches 40-Day Prayer Campaign at Meron Ahead of Rosh Hashanah
Starting Monday, the 20th of Av, a special 40-day prayer campaign will commence at the holy site of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron. Organized by Kuppat Ha'Ir, this annual prayer journey runs until the eve of Rosh Hashanah and aims to secure divine salvation through continuous supplication. The event will open with a solemn ceremony led by Rabbi Binyamin Finkel, who will recite special prayers and mention donors' names individually, invoking mercy and success.
The campaign is based on teachings from the Zohar that emphasize the power of praying for 40 consecutive days. Kuppat Ha'Ir leaders stress that preparing for Rosh Hashanah involves communal prayer by righteous emissaries, not just personal efforts. A new feature this year is the "Preparation for Rosh Hashanah" document, signed by Rabbi Finkel at the event, acknowledging donors who financially support needy families of Torah scholars.
Throughout the 40 days, emissaries will pray daily at Meron, carrying detailed lists of donors' names, seeking blessings for a good and peaceful year. Kuppat Ha'Ir highlights the profound spiritual impact of sustained prayer compared to one-time requests, with many attesting to life changes from this practice. The opening ceremony is expected to be emotionally charged, imbuing participants with a deep sense of responsibility and holiness as they carry the spiritual strength of the prayers through the High Holy Days.
