Zuckerberg Admits Meta Made Mistakes in Its AI-Driven Reorganization

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Friday that the company has "made mistakes" as it carries out a major workforce reorganization tied to its aggressive push into artificial intelligence, Reuters reported. In an internal memo to employees, he also warned about the challenges of rapidly developing AI technologies.

Meta has spent billions of dollars on AI infrastructure and tools as it competes with OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft for leadership in the fast-growing sector. The company has also explored using AI agents to do tasks now performed by employees.

Addressing the scale of the changes, Zuckerberg said, "Given the complexity of these changes, we have made mistakes and almost certainly will make more." He added that he is "focused on providing as much stability as possible" while Meta continues reshaping its workforce, and said, "I don't want to promise too much, because the world is changing in ways that are beyond our control."

Zuckerberg said Meta does not expect further company-wide layoffs this year. The comments follow last month’s cuts of about 10% of Meta’s global workforce and the transfer of about 7,000 employees to AI-focused initiatives. He said the company will try to find new roles for workers moved into AI model training, explaining that creating meaningful new positions also allowed Meta to shrink teams while retaining the option to move people back if it later identifies mistakes.
