U.S. State Attorneys General Probe OpenAI Over User, Health, and Minor Data Practices
Attorneys general from several U.S. states have opened an investigation into OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to the report, the company received a broad subpoena seeking documents on a range of activities and their effects on users. The request covers advertising, user engagement and retention, as well as how OpenAI handles consumer data and health data.
The subpoena, sent by the New York attorney general, also asks for information about activities involving minors and older adults, along with deep learning models. No further details were given about the scope, timing, or possible next steps in the investigation.
