Physical Attacks and Threats Escalate Against Those Recruiting Ultra-Orthodox in Israeli Security Forces

The protest against integrating ultra-Orthodox Jews into Israel's security forces has intensified into direct threats and physical attack attempts. Yossi Levi, CEO of the National Association "Shomer Yisrael" and a retired lieutenant colonel, sent an urgent letter to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Police Commissioner Major General Danny Levi demanding immediate increased security and oversight for prominent figures involved in recruiting ultra-Orthodox personnel.

Levi warned that recent events have crossed serious red lines, with hostility escalating from verbal insults and pamphlets in the ultra-Orthodox community to tangible, dangerous threats and physical assaults. He noted that these attacks have targeted activists in the field and himself personally, including during recruitment days and recently at a graduation ceremony for squad commanders in the Hachshmonaim Brigade.

In his letter, Levi emphasized their commitment to the mission despite the threats but stressed the urgent need for proactive police measures to protect those working to strengthen Israel's security. He criticized the current reactive security approach that only responds after violent incidents occur.

While calling for heightened vigilance and protection, Levi also praised the efforts of Minister Ben-Gvir and Commissioner Levi in advancing ultra-Orthodox integration into the police and security forces. He concluded by urging them to act decisively and swiftly to halt the wave of incitement and threats before a tragedy happens.
