Yinon Magal Breaks Down in Tears at Gush Katif Museum Reflecting on Expulsion Trauma

During a visit to the Gush Katif Museum in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Israeli journalist Yinon Magal was overcome with emotion and broke down in tears as he recalled his experiences during the 2005 expulsion from Gush Katif. Magal, who was honored with the "Distinguished Gush Katif Resident" award for his activism during and after the expulsion, shared that he was not permitted to report from the rooftop of Kfar Darom during the evacuation, a moment seared into his memory. Instead, he wandered through the fields of Gush Katif, crying bitterly. He described the pain from that period as something that has stayed with him to this day and expressed hope for the renewal of Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip and Gush Katif. The ceremony was attended by Shlomo Wasertail, chairman of the Gush Katif Museum, and attorney Gilad Korinaldi, who represents the synagogues of Gush Katif, both of whom accompanied Magal during the visit and award presentation.
