Hezbollah Uses International Project to Deploy Private Communication Network in Beirut

An international organization operating in Lebanon has uncovered that Hezbollah has deployed communication cables in Beirut as part of a project it funded, according to Saudi channel Al-Arabiya citing informed sources. Lebanese security agencies are monitoring the situation and have shared intelligence with U.S. agencies to identify the company and individuals responsible for the installation. Hezbollah reportedly used the project to establish a private communication network exclusively for its operatives, similar to infrastructure it previously set up in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Dahieh, extending now into Beirut.

The work was carried out by a company owned by a prominent Lebanese businessman considered one of the country's leading contractors. This company installed communication infrastructure alongside power lines for the international organization, within a project near UNESCO areas and the Rafik Hariri Hospital vicinity in Bir Hassan. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the company conducted similar work elsewhere in Beirut.

The company is believed to have received backing from senior figures in the Shiite political factions Amal and Hezbollah, which helped it secure major contracts. Lebanese security bodies are examining alleged security violations linked to the company, and its owners may face interrogation in Lebanon and potential sanctions from the U.S. Treasury Department.
