Augmental Unveils MouthPad Device to Control Computers Using Tongue Movements

Augmental, a technology company, has developed a groundbreaking device called MouthPad that allows users to control digital devices such as computers and smartphones solely through tongue movements. The device is a custom-made transparent dental plate, similar to a retainer, fitted precisely to the user's palate using 3D scanning technology. Embedded with electronic components and a sensitive touch surface, the MouthPad detects tongue gestures and translates them into digital commands like scrolling, cursor movement, and clicking.

Technology reporter Guy Shahar described the MouthPad in an interview on the program "HaOlam HaBoker," highlighting its revolutionary approach to human-computer interaction. The device's most significant impact is expected in accessibility, offering new independence to individuals with paralysis or severe motor impairments who cannot use their hands. Shahar called the invention a "life-changing event."

The MouthPad is already commercially available for purchase on Augmental's website, though it has not yet been introduced in Israel. This innovation represents a major step forward in assistive technology and digital accessibility.
