UN Rapporteur Mocked Mother of October 7 Murder Victim After Berlin Screening
Caroline Bohl’s mother, Sonia Bohl-Danker, said she was stunned by the hostility she encountered at a film premiere in Berlin in March, where Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on Palestine, was the guest of honor. Bohl-Danker wrote on X that she had “never been in a room where I felt so much hatred,” describing kippot, harsh slogans, and open hostility toward Israel throughout the event at the Babylon cinema.
Bohl-Danker is the mother of Caroline Bohl, 22, a German woman murdered in Kibbutz Nir Oz during Hamas’s October 7 attack. In response to her post, Albanese allegedly replied with mockery, “Change your medication.”
The comment drew sharp criticism online and from Israeli officials. Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, condemned Albanese on X, saying Bohl-Danker had shared her experience of “extreme hatred against Israel” at a screening where Albanese was the guest of honor. Danon added that Albanese’s reply to the bereaved mother was, “Change your medication,” and said, “There is no bottom to Francesca Albanese’s depravity.”
Albanese has faced repeated criticism from Israel and its allies over her remarks on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The United States has also imposed travel restrictions on her and frozen her access to international financial systems, including bank accounts and credit cards.
