Rabbi Nissan Palvani, Caretaker of Jerusalem's 'Yezidis' Synagogue, Dies at 72

Rabbi Nissan Palvani, the devoted caretaker of the renowned 'Yezidis' synagogue in Jerusalem's Bukharim neighborhood, passed away at the age of 72 on Thursday morning at Poriya Hospital in Tiberias. Last week, while on vacation in Tiberias, Rabbi Palvani suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors fought to save his life until his passing was confirmed.

Born to Rabbi Moshe Palvani and Mrs. Sarah, Rabbi Palvani was a well-known and beloved figure in Jerusalem. For many years, he served faithfully as the synagogue's caretaker, a place where many great Torah scholars taught. Those close to him described him as a man of kindness in every limb, dedicated to Torah study and community service, rising early and attending evening prayers, assisting scholars, and welcoming all with a warm and pleasant demeanor.

He leaves behind a large family including children, grandchildren, and descendants who continue to follow the path of Torah and mitzvot. The mourning families include the Palvani, Tamir, Kashi, and Kashani families. The funeral procession took place on Friday night, the 9th of Av, departing at 10:30 PM from the Sanhedria funeral home in Jerusalem to Har HaMenuchot cemetery. The family is sitting shiva at their home on 4 Hannah Street in Jerusalem. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
