Pharmacist and Doctor Remove Live Fly From Woman’s Ear in Tel Aviv Medical Center

A routine visit to a pharmacy in Tel Aviv-Yafo turned dramatic when a woman discovered a live fly trapped in her ear. The patient, identified only as M., had come to the Clalit Health Services' Lev Yafo Medical Center to pick up her regular prescriptions but complained to the pharmacist, Inga, about an irritating sensation in her ear. Recognizing the potential seriousness, Inga immediately alerted the clinic manager, Dr. Abd Rabo Abu Gama, to examine the ear.

Using medical equipment, Dr. Abu Gama found a whole fly lodged deep inside the ear canal, which had caused two small wounds that explained the patient’s discomfort. He carefully flushed the ear and successfully removed the insect intact. The doctor warned that such insect intrusions, while uncommon, tend to occur more frequently during summer and cautioned against attempting to remove foreign objects independently, especially with cotton swabs, as this can worsen injuries or cause infections.

The patient received local treatment to prevent infection and was scheduled for follow-up care. Both the pharmacist and doctor emphasized the importance of seeking prompt professional medical assistance rather than self-treatment to avoid complications.
