Elderly Hitchhiker Surprises Three Rabbis with Brilliant Torah Insight
Rabbi Yuval Sherlo, head of the Orot Shaul Yeshiva, recounted a memorable encounter while traveling from Haspin to Tiberias with two other rabbis. Near the entrance to Kibbutz Ein Gev, they picked up an elderly man who requested a ride. During their Torah discussion, one of the rabbis posed a question, and the hitchhiker unexpectedly offered a brilliant answer that astonished all three.
When asked about the source of his insight, the man explained that it was a teaching of Rabbi Shimon Shakuf, under whom he had studied at age 14. He added that anyone who hears Rabbi Shimon's Torah reasoning never forgets it. Rabbi Sherlo emphasized that this story highlights the enduring power of Rabbi Shimon Shakuf's teachings.
Sherlo further stated that if he had to choose a Torah master to study under, it would unequivocally be Rabbi Shimon Shakuf. He concluded by reflecting on the significance of Religious Zionist thought and his ongoing commitment to the future of his community and the people of Israel.
