Lia Cohen Was Under Surveillance Since Morning, New Details Emerge in Ayalon Highway Murder
The court today, Friday, extended by 10 days the detention of the former partner of Lia Malka Cohen, who was murdered by a bomb planted in her car and detonated on the Ayalon Highway. Police investigation shows that from the morning she was under surveillance by an assassination cell, and when she reached a traffic jam, they triggered the device, which carried half a kilogram of explosive material. Lia Malka Cohen was a former police officer, and her mother also served in the police for many years. Her family said they filed several complaints after multiple threats from the estranged partner, but the proper steps were not taken to protect her. The bomb exploded about 10 minutes after she dropped off her daughter at kindergarten and drove to her workplace. The explosion occurred yesterday shortly after 9:00 a.m., near the Holon Interchange, and Magen David Adom teams called to the scene found the victim lifeless and pronounced her dead at the scene. Magen David Adom medics Neriya Hagbi and Orel Toldano said: "We received a report of a car explosion, arrived at the scene quickly and saw the vehicle burning and, nearby, a person lying without a pulse and without breathing, with burns on the body. We carried out medical examinations, the injury was very severe and we had to pronounce her dead."
