Concern in Beit Vagan as yeshiva head is hospitalized, all study sessions dedicated to his recovery
Concern is growing in the Sephardic Torah world: Rabbi Shalom Beitan, head of the Daat Chaim Yeshiva and a member of the Shas Council of Yeshiva Heads, has been hospitalized following weakness and is expected to undergo a surgical procedure this morning.
In the halls of Torah and among his thousands of students and acquaintances, there is deep concern, and the public has been called upon to pray for the complete and speedy recovery of the yeshiva head, Rabbi Shalom ben Esther Lizet, together with all other sick people of Israel.
Rabbi Beitan is regarded as one of the best-known figures in the Sephardic community and in the yeshiva world in particular. Beyond leading one of the prominent Sephardic yeshivas, Rabbi Beitan has taken on considerable public prominence in recent years. He serves as a senior member of the rabbinical and yeshiva heads committee on behalf of the Shas movement, a committee that directly and behind the scenes manages one of the most sensitive and burning issues in the country, the enlistment law and the status of yeshiva students.
At his yeshiva, Daat Chaim, all of today’s study sessions were dedicated to the complete recovery of the revered yeshiva head.
