Top Refreshing Outdoor Spots to Explore in Israel’s Finger of the Galilee
As the weekend approaches, nature lovers have a perfect opportunity to enjoy some of northern Israel’s most scenic and refreshing outdoor locations in the Finger of the Galilee. With the summer heat, several spots offer cool water activities such as kayaking, swimming, and hiking near waterfalls.
One iconic experience is kayaking in Kfar Blum, where families can enjoy a gentle 4-kilometer route along the Hasbani and Jordan Rivers. The trip lasts about an hour and a half, with mild water currents ideal for children. Nearby, the Eucalyptus Parking Lot at the lower Banias stream provides a peaceful spot for a quick dip or picnic under large eucalyptus trees, just a few minutes’ walk from the car.
For a blend of nature and history, visitors can hike a shaded 10-15 minute trail near Kibbutz Snir to see the overturned Syrian tank submerged in the Banias stream, a remnant from the Six-Day War. The return hike is uphill on the same path.
Nature enthusiasts can also visit the Nahal Ayun Nature Reserve near Metula, home to the impressive 21-meter-high Mill Waterfall, named after an old flour mill. The waterfall is easily accessible with a short two-minute walk from the parking area, and longer trails lead to additional waterfalls in the reserve.
For dining, the city of Kiryat Shmona offers Mama Halsa, a meat restaurant styled as a mini-museum showcasing the city’s history. Manager Charlie Peretz expressed hope for peace in the region amid ongoing challenges. Coffee lovers can stop at Goldie’s coffee cart in Metula, which serves high-quality coffee, fresh pastries, and sandwiches in a charming outdoor setting with stunning views.
