Knesset Legal Advisor Warns of Procedural Flaws as Communication Law Vote Begins
Shagit Afik, the Knesset's legal advisor, issued a warning to lawmakers ahead of the vote on the Communication Law, highlighting a procedural flaw in the legislative process. Afik pointed out that the committee responsible for the bill did not hold discussions on the submitted amendments, which is required if there is an intention to accept them either in committee or in the plenum. She emphasized that if the committee chooses to reject the amendments during the committee vote to consider them later in the plenum without substantive discussion, it would constitute a procedural defect, especially concerning this particular bill.
In related developments, to meet the current Knesset session deadlines, a split of the Communication Law proposal was approved. Additionally, a leader from the Shas party stressed the importance of enabling the passage of key laws to the authorities during this session.
