Knesset Legal Advisor Defends Handling of Communications Law Debate

Sagit Afek, the Knesset's legal advisor, addressed criticisms during a committee discussion on the Communications Law proposal. She responded to claims questioning why discussions on the bill were not halted, clarifying that legal precedent dictates the legislative process is evaluated only at its conclusion. Afek referenced three Supreme Court rulings that reaffirm this principle, emphasizing that even procedural flaws within the government did not prompt the Government Legal Department to block the bill's initial reading in the Knesset plenum. She added that any procedural defects can be remedied during the Communications Committee's discussions, provided they are conducted properly.
