Israel Launches New Cellular Tower in Mitzpe Jericho to End Dead Zones on Dead Sea Road

A new cellular communication tower was inaugurated on Thursday in the settlement of Mitzpe Jericho, aiming to resolve longstanding mobile reception issues in the area and along the main travel route to the Dead Sea. The ceremony was attended by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and Binyamin Regional Council head Israel Gantz. The tower, now connected to all cellular providers, is expected to significantly improve mobile coverage for residents and the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who travel annually on the Dead Sea road, ensuring more reliable communication in both routine and emergency situations.

This inauguration is part of a broader initiative to enhance cellular infrastructure across the Binyamin region. Concurrently, construction is underway for additional towers in Beit Horon and Kfar Adumim, with completed towers in Ahiya, Brantis, and Shiloh Farm soon to be connected to the power grid. In total, 16 new cellular towers are planned for installation throughout Binyamin within the coming year, with eight more already approved and funded.

Israel Gantz emphasized the security importance of the project, recalling a 2002 terrorist attack at the British Police Junction where lack of cellular coverage hindered emergency response. He described the tower rollout as a "revolution" that will save lives and improve residents' quality of life. Minister Karhi framed the project as a milestone in strengthening Israeli sovereignty and infrastructure in Judea and Samaria, stating that these areas will no longer be peripheral but central to Israel's future development. Both officials expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and other partners for their support in advancing the initiative.
