Israeli Government Approves Shin Bet Role in Combating Crime in Arab Society
The Israeli government has approved the involvement of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) in efforts to combat crime within the Arab community. Approximately 497 million shekels will be redirected from the five-year plan budget to support this initiative. Of this amount, around 364 million shekels are allocated to the Shin Bet to establish a dedicated unit focused on combating arms smuggling and trafficking, as well as enhancing intelligence and operational capabilities.
Additionally, about 132 million shekels will be allocated to the police to create a national unit specifically aimed at fighting crime in the Arab society. This includes the development of technological systems and the procurement of advanced operational equipment. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the Shin Bet's entry into this fight against crime, which he called a national scourge, as a dramatic and significant step forward.
