US Launches Daytime Strikes on Iran as Tehran Threatens to Kidnap 100 Soldiers
The United States military initiated a new wave of strikes against Iran today in an unusual daytime operation. The US Central Command stated that the attacks targeted Iranian military capabilities used to assault commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes began at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time, marking a departure from previous US operations, which were mostly conducted at night in the Middle East region.
In response, Iranian officials escalated their threats against the US. Former Iranian Foreign Minister and current parliament member Manouchehr Mottaki called for a ground raid on a US base in the region to capture dozens of American soldiers. He said, "My proposal is to launch a ground attack on one of the American bases in the region, capture 100 Americans, and bring them to Iran."
The Iranian military reported that seven soldiers, including regular and conscripted troops, were killed in the US strike on the Bamfoor base in southeastern Iran. Iran's military has vowed to retaliate. Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani claimed that at least 30 civilians have died in recent US attacks in southern Iran, with the Iranian Health Ministry reporting over 260 injured.
The conflict between the US and Iran reignited last week after a fragile ceasefire established in June began to collapse. The renewed hostilities have involved Iranian attacks on commercial ships and US bases in the region, alongside extensive US military strikes along Iran's coast and near the Strait of Hormuz.
