Court Hears Sentencing Arguments in Theft of Sound System from Murdered Nova Party Organizer
On July 15, 2026, the Beersheba Magistrate's Court held a sentencing hearing for Ram Shaheen, Daniel Hasson, and San Tavel, accused of stealing the sound system belonging to Matan Lior, who was murdered at the Nova party on October 7. Matan Lior, one of the event's producers and responsible for the sound system, was killed in a massacre at the event. According to the indictment, two days after the murder, the defendants entered the still-closed military zone of the party, misrepresented themselves, and removed the sound system and generator from the site. The stolen equipment was later recovered by detectives from the Yoav Unit and returned to Lior's family.
Matan's father expressed gratitude to the police for recovering the equipment, stating, "Matan built his business with his own hands and it was his whole world. The detective unit simply saved everything they could." He condemned the suspects as "worthless," highlighting their callousness in stealing the equipment knowing Matan was missing and murdered. The case sparked public outrage, especially after it emerged that some involved knew Matan personally and had even come to console his family during the shiva mourning period.
Lior's family, accompanied by representatives from the Nova Tribe community organization, attended the court hearing. The trial continues as the court deliberates on the appropriate punishment for the defendants.
