Shas MK Yaakov Margi Opposes Torah Study Law, Urges Draft for All Non-Students

Yaakov Margi, a Shas party member of the Knesset who recently announced his retirement, gave a surprising interview on Kan Reshet Bet on Tuesday regarding the Basic Law on Torah Study passed the previous evening. Contrary to his party's usual stance, Margi expressed opposition to the law, stating that if it were up to him, the law would not exist. He argued that all individuals who are not engaged in Torah study should be drafted into the military. Margi emphasized that salvation will not come from rabbis or political leadership but through action. Addressing those who chant "we will die rather than enlist," he bluntly responded, "If you don't want to serve, then die."
