Shas MK Yaakov Margi Urges Drafting All Non-Torah Students Amid Haredi Draft Debate

Yaakov Margi, a Shas party member of the Knesset who recently announced his retirement, sharply criticized the handling of the Torah study law and the broader issue of drafting Haredi men into the Israeli military. Margi stated that if it were up to him, the Torah study law would not have been advanced at all, emphasizing instead that all individuals not engaged in Torah study should be drafted. Speaking to Kan News, he expressed frustration with both religious and political leadership on this matter, asserting that salvation will not come from rabbis or political leaders.

Margi also addressed protesters opposing the draft, particularly those who chant "we would rather die than enlist," responding bluntly, "If you don't want to, then die."
