Israeli Man Caught Trying to Bypass Exit Ban at Ben Gurion Airport
A resident of northern Israel admitted to violating a legal order after attempting to enter Israel through Ben Gurion Airport without passing border control with his passport. According to the indictment, he was aware of an exit ban issued against him by the Enforcement and Collection Authority. The Central District Police's prosecution unit filed charges against him at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court.
The incident occurred about a year and a half ago after the man traveled with another passenger to Uman for the Jewish High Holidays and returned to Israel via Ben Gurion Airport. To avoid detection of the exit ban, he closely followed the other passenger who presented a biometric passport and received electronic gate clearance. The suspect managed to pass through the gate with the other traveler, but a border control officer from the Population and Immigration Authority noticed and stopped him for inspection.
Upon checking the computer systems, authorities discovered the exit ban against him, leading to his arrest and interrogation at the Ben Gurion Police District offices. He was later released. During the legal proceedings, the parties reached a plea agreement in which the suspect admitted to the offense. The service work supervisor is expected to submit an opinion on his suitability for community service. After the suspect failed to appear at the latest hearing, the court scheduled sentencing in about three months and ordered him to deposit 1,500 shekels, which will be forfeited if he does not attend the next hearing.
