“I Want to Feel More Modest”: Lihi Greiner on Meeting Haredi Children

Former Big Brother contestant and influencer Lihi Greiner shared a personal moment in a story about an encounter near a Haredi kindergarten close to her home, a small moment that also led her to an unexpected conclusion about the way she dresses.

Greiner said she arrived at the place wearing sports clothes, including a sports bra and leggings, without knowing it was a Haredi kindergarten. But when she went in and saw the teachers dressed modestly and the children wearing kippahs and tzitzit, she immediately felt uncomfortable. “Suddenly I realized this is naked,” she said. “I went in and felt naked,” she told her followers.

According to her, in that moment she understood that although such clothing feels completely normal to her at the gym, in another space it felt different. “At the gym I don’t feel naked because everyone there is dressed the same, but outside, it’s naked and it’s not pleasant to dress like that,” she said candidly. She later added that although she sometimes puts on a jacket or cardigan, the experience made her rethink how she wants to dress outside of workouts.

After that encounter, Greiner put a shirt over her sports clothes and shared her new feeling: “It’s much better,” she wrote. She also hinted that in the future she will try to wear sports clothes outside the gym less often, mainly because of the personal feeling it gave her. “I do feel modest,” she said, explaining that the experience made her want to feel more covered and more modest in everyday life as well. Her story drew many reactions online, mainly because of the honesty with which she spoke about how her feelings changed in a different environment from the one she is used to.
