Israel Shares Intelligence on Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump During Turkey Visit
Over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported that Israel recently shared intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran planned an assassination attempt on then-President Donald Trump. Senior Israeli sources told Channel 13 News that the intelligence, which included a quote from an Iranian official stating, "This is our opportunity, there will be no better chance," was immediately passed to the U.S. The reference was to Trump's upcoming visit to Turkey.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Herzog confirmed the reports in an interview with Fox News. The White House did not comment directly but noted that Trump himself acknowledged the threat, saying, "They want to eliminate the leader of the U.S., me. I'm on their list. I saw it this morning. So far I've had some luck, but it's uncertain if it will continue."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the situation in an interview with NBC, emphasizing that Trump seeks to exhaust diplomatic options with Iran but is prepared to use force if Iran violates agreements. Netanyahu expressed gratitude for the U.S. joining efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, which he said threatens both Israel and the United States.
Additionally, Netanyahu intends to attend the funeral of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who died unexpectedly at age 71. This visit may also provide an opportunity for Netanyahu to meet with Trump, although no meeting has yet been scheduled.
