Israel and US Coordinate Military Scenarios Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

A senior Israeli defense official revealed on Sunday that amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have coordinated with the US military on several scenarios, including one where Israel joins US strikes against Iran. This coordination comes as internal divisions within Iran's leadership complicate negotiations with the US. The pragmatic faction, led by President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, is described by intelligence sources as rational and seeking an agreement due to Iran's difficult situation. In contrast, a hardline religious faction, headed by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Vahidi, has hardened its stance, viewing US President Donald Trump as unlikely to engage in renewed conflict before the November midterm elections.

The Israeli defense official characterized the hardliners as patient chess players, anticipating limited US willingness to escalate. Despite this, Israel remains on high alert and prepared for various responses in coordination with the US military, particularly the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The IDF has rehearsed scenarios involving joint Israeli-US military action against Iran, reflecting concerns over Iran's increasing provocations aimed at gaining leverage without resolving nuclear and strategic issues, including control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The official also noted that extreme rhetoric from Iranian regime leaders, including threats of blood revenge against Trump, could potentially shift Iran's approach. Consequently, the IDF is maintaining heightened readiness to respond swiftly to any developments. This strategic coordination underscores the close military ties between Israel and the US amid a volatile regional security environment.
