US Strikes Iranian Missile and Naval Targets Near Strait of Hormuz Amid Control Claims
A senior US official confirmed to Axios that the US military conducted multiple strikes about an hour ago targeting Iranian missile systems, air defenses, and small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at several locations around the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier reports indicated explosions in Kuwait and that an Iranian missile struck a US Army missile unit position in the country. The Iranian news agency Mehr claimed the targeted unit played a significant role in an attack carried out the previous night in southern Iran. The IRGC also reported attacking US warships and vessels they said violated waters approximately 20 kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz.
Both Iran and the United States assert control over the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump told NBC that the strait remains open and said, "We really hit them hard last night." He described the Iranians as "very bad and sick people," alleging they agreed to a deal the day before but then attacked a ship. The US Central Command rejected Iranian claims and stated that US forces remain ready to ensure freedom of navigation despite Iranian aggression, harassment, and threats.
