Bison Charges and Injures Grandfather in Yellowstone National Park
A routine family outing at Yellowstone National Park in the United States turned dangerous when a large bison charged at a grandfather and his grandson at the Bridge Bay camping area. The grandson managed to escape unharmed, but the grandfather was struck and thrown approximately 2.5 meters into the air before landing heavily on the ground. The incident was captured on video by Mike Macleod, a professional photographer and former military photographer, who witnessed the aggressive behavior of the bison.
According to Macleod, the bison initially charged at a group of children who quickly moved away. The grandfather and grandson, maintaining a distance of about 100 meters and following park safety guidelines, tried to hide among trees. However, a passing pickup truck distracted the bison, causing it to change direction and charge directly at them. After the attack, the bison remained near the injured man until Macleod and other tourists intervened by shouting and approaching the animal, prompting it to retreat.
Park medical teams provided first aid and evacuated the grandfather, who sustained serious injuries to his pelvis and leg. The grandson later reviewed the footage to confirm that they had not provoked the animal. Macleod stated, "They clearly kept their distance and were not at fault. The bison was simply looking for a fight."
This is the second bison attack in Yellowstone since the start of the current tourist season, following a similar incident in June involving a 12-year-old boy. Experts note that during the rutting season from June to September, male bison exhibit increased aggression due to hormonal changes.
