Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz to Shipping Following Attack on Cypriot Vessel
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping until further notice. This decision came after Iran attacked a Cypriot ship attempting to pass through the Omani route in the strait, after the vessel had turned off its signaling system. The ship's crew abandoned the vessel, with one sailor reported missing. In an official statement, Iran cited "security damage caused by illegal interference from foreign entities" as the reason for the closure and demanded an end to American intervention in the region. Iran warned that any new aggression by its enemies would be met with a strong response.
