Former Elitzur Yavne Player Killed in Harlem Basketball Tournament Shooting
Kino Rushford, a former player for the Israeli basketball team Elitzur Yavne, was fatally shot during a basketball tournament in Harlem on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. local time at the Kingdom court, located behind a residential building on Lenox Avenue near 112th Street in West Harlem, part of the King Towers residential complex. Rushford, 35, was sitting on the bench when he was shot in the head. Two others were injured in the shooting: a 28-year-old man was hit in the calf, and a 22-year-old woman was wounded in her right hand. It remains unclear if Rushford was the intended target of the shooter.
Rushford had played for Elitzur Yavne in 2014 in the Israeli National League, where he averaged impressive statistics of 21.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game over 10 matches. The shooting took place in front of a large crowd attending the tournament. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
