US Officials Accuse Israel of Influence Attempt Over Trump Flight Security Warning

A recent report by The New York Times revealed that US President Donald Trump flew from the NATO summit in Ankara on his older Air Force One plane rather than the newer one gifted by Qatar, following a "special security recommendation" amid rising tensions with Iran. On Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported US concerns that Israel shared this intelligence to influence decision-making in Washington, aiming to push Trump toward a full-scale conflict with Iran.

According to US officials cited by The New York Times, the intelligence was a single, context-limited item that often provides only a partial view of the threat. These officials noted that Iran is aware that an attack on Trump could provoke a strong military response. While Trump preferred diplomacy, Israeli sources reportedly sought a return to military strikes to continue pressuring Iran. Israeli military planners allegedly continued targeting Iranian sites after the campaign ended, contrasting with Trump’s diplomatic approach.

The Israeli embassy emphasized that intelligence sharing with the US reflects their close partnership and is not intended to promote hidden agendas like encouraging war. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not comment. US officials clarified that the plane switch before takeoff from Turkey was a precaution, not due to a specific threat. Flight data showed the plane’s tracking transmitter was activated only after crossing the Black Sea near Istanbul.

Trump denied the plane change was security-related, stating the new plane had taken off earlier to visit US military bases and showcase its luxury. However, he later acknowledged the move might have been connected to threats from Iran.
