US and Iran Resume Diplomatic Talks Amid Israeli Concerns Over Military Involvement
US officials have indicated that President Donald Trump does not want Israel to join the military confrontation against Iran. According to sources cited by CNN, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is interested in participating in US strikes, but the US prefers Israel to remain uninvolved at this stage. Another source noted that the US expects to avoid full-scale conflict, with the most extreme measure likely being the reinstatement of a naval blockade.
Meanwhile, Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social that Iran has requested to continue talks, but the US made it clear that the ceasefire has ended. Iran, however, continues to threaten regional countries. Mohammad Baqer Duv Al-Qadr, secretary to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warned Iranian media that if Iran’s energy infrastructure is attacked, Iran will retaliate and will not spare Israel.
Additionally, sources told the Wall Street Journal that Israel recently shared intelligence with the US about a planned assassination attempt on President Trump by Iran. Trump alluded to threats against his life during the NATO summit in Ankara, saying he is on Iran’s hit list and that his luck may not last. The White House did not comment on the intelligence sharing, and both the Israeli embassy in Washington and Iran’s UN mission declined to respond at the time of publication.
