World No. 1 Sabalenka Responds to Wimbledon Criticism with TikTok Post from Mykonos Vacation
Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, addressed criticism following her surprising exit from Wimbledon by posting a sarcastic video on TikTok. After losing in the round of 16 to Naomi Osaka in straight sets (6-2, 7-6), Sabalenka experienced her earliest Grand Slam defeat since the 2022 French Open and her first straight-sets loss in 122 Grand Slam matches. Frustrated after the match, she told reporters she had "ruined this year" but planned to "do better next year" and joked about wanting to "get completely drunk, forget tennis, and come back in better shape."
Following Wimbledon, Sabalenka vacationed in Mykonos, Greece, with her fiancé Georgios Frangoulis and friends, sharing moments from the trip on social media. Despite the break, she continued to face criticism accusing her of focusing more on TikTok than tennis and questioning her status as world number one. In response, Sabalenka posted a TikTok video showing herself drinking and dancing by the pool, captioned "This is my version of therapy," along with a laughing emoji. She also shared Instagram photos relaxing with her dog, stating she was "taking a moment for myself."
Despite the Wimbledon setback, Sabalenka retained her top ranking and is now preparing to defend her title at the upcoming US Open, where she has been champion for the past two years.
