The consulate described this portrayal as a historical distortion and a cynical attempt to use Jesus' story for contemporary political purposes. The statement emphasized that Jesus was Jewish, born in Judea to his Jewish mother Mary, and any suggestion that he was born to a Palestinian mother or was Muslim is historically inaccurate. The consulate accused the mayor's wife of promoting a false and dangerous narrative against Israel.
