Tiberias Coach Eliran Hodeda Faces Suspension Over Illegal Doping Scandal

The Israeli Football Association is investigating a doping scandal involving Ironi Tiberias football club, with head coach Eliran Hodeda considered primarily responsible. Hodeda was summoned for a hearing at the Israeli Sports Anti-Doping Agency alongside the club's technical manager Chen Sol and fitness coach Shlomi Vardaru. According to sources familiar with the case, Hodeda admitted during the hearing that he initiated the administration of illegal infusions to players.

The club has acknowledged administering infusions but disputes the quantity alleged by the agency, which claims players received more than 100 milliliters, exceeding legal limits. The infusions were given from a one-liter saline solution, placing the club in a difficult position. If Hodeda accepts responsibility, he could face a suspension ranging from one to two years, a recommendation expected from senior officials as part of a plea deal.

The disciplinary process will continue on Sunday, when players are also expected to attend hearings in hopes of postponing any suspensions, though such a delay appears unlikely at this stage. The case has significant implications for the club and its staff as the league season progresses.
