Tadej Pogacar Dominates Pyrenees Stage to Retake Tour de France Lead
Tadej Pogacar showcased his dominance in the 2026 Tour de France by winning the sixth stage, a 186.2-kilometer route finishing in Gavarnia-Gadéra in the Pyrenees. The Slovenian champion launched a powerful attack 43 kilometers from the finish, including a decisive climb up the Col de Tourmalet, 4.2 kilometers before the stage end. Pogacar was joined by his UAE Team Emirates teammate Isaac del Toro during the attack.
Jonas Vingegaard finished the stage more than two and a half minutes behind Pogacar, securing second place on the stage, while del Toro finished third alongside Juan Ayuso, Paul Sykes, Mathias Skjelmose, Remco Evenepoel, and Florian Lipowitz. With this victory, Pogacar claimed his 22nd career Tour de France stage win and reclaimed the yellow jersey.
In the overall general classification, Pogacar leads with a significant margin of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over Vingegaard, who is second, and Isaac del Toro is third, 3 minutes and 37 seconds behind the Slovenian. Remco Evenepoel and Juan Ayuso round out the top five, trailing by 3:30 and 3:34 respectively. Pogacar’s commanding performance in the mountains signals his strong intent to defend his title as the race progresses.
